Game Of Thrones Season 7: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'Stormborn'
Downs...
2. Goodbye Sand Snakes, We Hardly Knew Ye
Since their arrival in Season 5, the Sand Snakes have not, on the whole, been well-received. It's not hard to understand why either: the show made a complete mess of the Dorne storyline from the books (including leaving out its best character, Arianne Martell), and the Sand Snakes suffered from that, along with poor fight choreography and awful dialogue.
Because of that, they haven't really featured much in the show since - Season 6 mostly ignored them - and now the chance to kill two of them (while taking Tyene and the 'mother' Ellaria hostage) has been swiftly taken.
It's not like they'll really be missed, but it is another example of the writers seemingly admitting they f**ked up big time with the Dorne storyline. And in the end, while there might be more for Tyene and Ellaria, neither Obara nor Nymeria really had much to do before they were killed off. Even though this was one of their better scenes, the editing of the battle meant that it all happened so fast, and their deaths have little impact, with the show taking an easy way out of Dorne.
