Game Of Thrones Season 7: 10 Ups And 2 Downs From 'The Spoils Of War'
5. Tyrion's Part In The Battle
Since Daenerys was, up until the end of this episode, losing the war, and Tyrion has been serving as her main strategist, it's maybe not much of a surprise to see her turn on him slightly here.
What is more surprising, though, is that Tyrion has been brought to the big battle, emerging towards the end to watch on from afar. This may well be intended as a form of punishment or test of loyalties, as he's brought to watch his brother potentially die, but it adds a different dynamic to the fight.
It's great being right in the thick of it, but this allows us to take a step back for a moment and feel a different kind of worry, as it's funneled through Tyrion. Even though it's not the biggest part of the scene, it still comes across as a vital one (and Peter Dinklage kills it, obviously), as we see the conflict upon his face. He's on Daenerys' side, but he also has to hope that Jaime survives.
Cersei and Tyrion hate each other so much, and the siblings have been separated so long, that it's easy to forget how close Tyrion and Jaime were when they parted in the show, and this is a great way of reminding viewers of that without losing the thrill of the battle.
