Game Of Thrones Season 7: 7 Major Fan Theories About Jon Snow & Daenerys Targaryen

1. Ice Vs Fire

The most common notion about Jon and Daenerys, as has been apparent throughout, is that they will work together in some way to save Westeros. They're the human embodiments of ice and fire, and ostensibly the central heroes of the story. It just makes sense.

But there are also a number of theories that posit Daenerys Targaryen isn't the real hero, but instead the villain waiting to be revealed. It's a captivating notion, because while it is a twist that flies in the face of Daenerys' apparent saviour status, it does also fit with what we know about both her actions and her family's past.

She has freed slaves, but conquered other lands. She's saved numerous lives, but been the cause of many others dying. She wants to take what is hers "with fire and blood", given hate-filled speeches that encourage violence, made some ill-informed decisions, and threatened those who might move against her. There's at least a hint of the Mad King in there, something she does try to suppress, but perhaps it will come bubbling over in the end. Even if she's not mad, her style does not necessarily make for a good ruler of Westeros, and she may inadvertently set about bringing death and destruction if she sits on the Iron Throne, meaning she must be stopped.

It'd be a big shock, no matter how much it's theorised, but also give the series' ultimate endgame a villain more in keeping with those we've seen throughout, rather than the mysterious White Walkers. And if Daenerys is indeed the villain, then that puts her right against Jon Snow, who does have a clear hero's journey in this saga.

This would mean the endgame does come down to Ice vs Fire, but that being Jon against Daenerys.
