Game Of Thrones Season 7: 8 Things You Might've Missed In 'The Spoils Of War'

4. Arya's Homecoming

Arya Stark's return to Winterfell isn't just a satisfying, emotional moment - it's one full of callbacks to her past. The first comes when she arrives at the gates, and is confronted by two guards who refuse to let her in.

This is a reference to Season 1, when two guards refused to let Arya - who they assumed was just some scruffy street urchin - into the Red Keep. She was much more confrontational then, and here uses her cleverness to trick them instead (though does make a slight threat as well).

It also reminds us of the last time Arya was on the verge of a family reunion, when she was told at the Eyrie that Lady Arryn is dead, and responds with that awful laughter. Meeting Sansa in front of the tomb of Ned recalls the last time they shared a scene - Ned's death - and there's the fact Sansa says Jon's "heart will probably stop." Rather awkward (if only they knew...), but also a reminder of how close Jon and Arya were, and it's no coincidence that's the Stark reunion they're putting off.
