Game Of Thrones Season 7: 8 Things You Might've Missed In 'The Spoils Of War'
3. And Her Fight With Brienne
Arya's fight with Brienne was another scene full of various callbacks, which probably isn't much of a surprise given it starts with a direct reference to the latter's fight with the Hound.
Not only does Arya wear dress in a similar fashion to her father, but her fighting style mixes the three biggest teachers she's had in that regard: Syrio Forel, the Hound, and the Waif.
Syrio is the most obvious of these, as her style is still clearly the water dancing he taught her back in Season 1, and the way they end with blades pointed at each other is the most direct reference to that training. But then there's also the way she gets back up, the same we saw her taught (or forced) to do back in Braavos, and aiming for Brienne's weak spots, taken from the Hound.
It's another example of how the Starks have been shaped by influences outside their family, which has been a common theme this season: Bran is the Three-Eyed Raven; the way Arya ate mirrored the Hound; Sansa talks about the lessons learned from Cersei; and Jon refuses to bend the knee, just like Mance.
