Game Of Thrones Season 7 Premiere: 9 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Dragonstone'
8. Winter Is Here
Checking in with Bran and Meera, the episode wastes absolutely no time in getting them to the Wall. However, that doesn't happen until we've had another one of his visions, and holy sh*t is it a biggie.
We've been teased throughout the build-up to Season 7 that the Great War is here, and our first glimpse of it comes right here in the first episode. An army of dead is marching on Westeros, led by the Night King, and (no pun intended) it is completely chilling to watch.
There's an added 'OMG'-factor due to the fact that, added to their ranks, are giants; undead ice zombie giants!
It's a superb tease for the series' real endgame, with just enough ambiguity to what we're seeing to make it as intriguing as much as it is haunting. While at first it seems as though this is taking place in the present, with the army marching on Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, looking at the scene closely it appears as though there's grass in front of them being frosted over, which could mean this is actually the future (which we know Bran can see). The Great War is here indeed!
