Game Of Thrones Season 7 Premiere: 9 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Dragonstone'
7. Dany Returns Home
The episode itself is named after Daenerys' homecoming, meaning we knew it was definitely going to be in this instalment, and yet we're left waiting until the end for her big return.
That proves a wise decision, because it gives Daenerys' storyline the sort of worthiness it deserves here. Her whole life has been spent trying to get back home and reclaim what she believes is rightfully hers, so it's thrilling we're finally getting that now.
One of the best parts of this is also a very small one: when Daenerys, on Dragonstone's beach, just kneels down and puts her hand in the sand. It's a nice way of highlighting what this means to Dany without needing her to spell it out, and provides a touching moment for the episode. The decision to have all of this play out in silence is an interesting one (especially when you have great talkers like Tyrion and Varys present), but one that adds to the weight of the moment.
It's also important to point out how gorgeous Dragonstone looks now. In the books it always comes across as a wonderful, evocative location, and while it has appeared in the show before, there's obviously far more care and detail going into it now Dany is there, and it's already paying off.
