Game Of Thrones Season 8: 10 Things That Were ACTUALLY GOOD

7. The Performances

Jon Kills Daenerys
HBO

While many have slammed the writing (and Starbucks product placement) of season 8, something that cannot be faulted is the acting. The giant cast do their absolute best with the material given and remind us why many stars garnered such acclaim during the series’ run.

Emilia Clarke makes the most of Daenerys’ rather sudden descent into evil. She provides the necessary menace whilst still holding onto the emotional sensitivity of the character, reminding us why we liked her as we watch her fall from grace. It’s powerful acting and her final scene with Jon Snow packs a punch, even if the road to it was far bumpier than expected.

Similarly, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau gives his best work since season 3 as a Lannister torn between a new life with Brienne and his old one with Cersei. His speech to Brienne before departing for King’s Landing is a heartbreaker. After 5 seasons of redemption, Jaime slips back into his old self at the last hurdle, leading to a tragic end for the character. While it was a sudden 180 for Goldhand the Just, Coster-Waldau sold the change of heart convincingly.

A triumph all round, the cast made a great go of their last run in Westeros.
