Game Of Thrones Season 8: 10 Things That Were ACTUALLY GOOD

6. Ser Brienne

Brienne Game Of Thrones
HBO

For all the flak various character endings received, here’s one that made perfect thematic sense. Brienne of Tarth had always dreamed of being a knight. We see her struggle to remain noble in a world that throws her nothing but lemons. In Jaime Lannister, she sees the pain and anguish the responsibilities of knighthood can cause.

The Book of Brothers first appeared with King Joffrey noting there was nothing in it about his kingslaying uncle/father. Jaime notes “There’s still time.” Fast forward several seasons and Brienne, now the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, fills in Jaime’s deeds, ensuring he’d be remembered for more than just taking the Mad King down.

A poignant end to the Jaime/Brienne dynamic, it was also uplifting to see Brienne finally assume the kind of mantle she’d been seeking all series. A fitting, bittersweet ending, Brienne moved on from her painfully brief love affair to become the battle hardy figurehead the Kingsguard needed.

In the enraged aftermath of the show's finish, Brienne's tasteful write up of her gold-handed pal became the victim of various memes. As amusing as some of them were, this was a send-off the oft-criticised show runners got right.
