Game Of Thrones Season 8: 10 Things That Were ACTUALLY GOOD
2. The Effects
More than 300 artists were brought in for the CGI, with near 40 working on the dragons alone. Every ship, castle and battle was brought to life by visual effects wiz Sven Martin and his gargantuan team. Season 8 put more emphasis on Daenerys' dragons than ever, with a particular focus on last survivor Drogon. The close-ups of the scaled beast required a litany of facial expressions to convey his emotions, particularly during Daenerys' death scene. Without humanising his features, the team successfully presented the sadness of the mighty animal to great effect.
Euron Greyjoy's villainous armada of ships was another triumph for the team. Each hull was digitally animated where the seas and sails were crafted via simulation software that could emulate the subtle movements of actual surfaces. The quality of the effects throughout season 8 were above and beyond anything else to have made it to the small screen. They were superior also to many of the biggest, CGI-laden blockbusters out there. A astounding accomplishment, Game of Thrones never stopped testing just how grand TV could be in its 8 seasons. It will be the measuring stick by which all fantasy and sci fi shows are measured for years to come.
