Game Of Thrones Season 8: 12 Details You Might've Missed In 'The Last Of The Starks'
4. Varys Gets A Nod Towards His Book Storyline

Varys hasn't had, well, anything to do on Game of Thrones for quite some time. With the transition to White Walkers, he hasn't had much of a part to play. But now we're going from The Great War to the Great Game, Varys is very much back in play.
He learns of Jon Snow's true parentage, and begins plotting of a way to raise him to the Iron Throne rather than Daenerys.
While it's not overt, this is a nod to where Varys is in the books (sort of). There, the Master of Whisperers has secretly been plotting to bring the alleged Aegon Targaryen (firstborn son of Rhaegar) to Westeros and install him on the Iron Throne, even going as far as killing Grand Maester Pycelle and Kevan Lannister to cause chaos in the realm ahead of Aegon's arrival. The show cut out that storyline, but now we still have Varys supporting the claim of someone called Aegon Targaryen.
