Game Of Thrones Season 8: 12 Easter Eggs & References You Might've Missed In 'The Bells'

4. The Ashes

Cersei is dead, which very much leaves the door open for Daenerys to take the Iron Throne she's craved for so long, but what kind of Queen does that make her?

In Season 7, she said that she didn't plan on being "Queen of the Ashes", and yet as King's Landing is now covered in ash, that's what she is going to become. Going back to that shot of the Iron Throne, and we can now say that it's going to be ash covering it, even if at the time it aired it was almost certainly snow.

Ash has another relevance in this episode too, given it's Cersei's last. One of Tyrion's most iconic quotes is: “A day will come when you think you are safe and happy and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth and you will know the debt is paid." Although Tyrion didn't want his sister to die, it's safe to say that any joy will have turned to quite literal ash since she was right in the thick of it.
