12. The Golden Company
Throughout the season, and with mentions going as far back as season 4, the Golden Company were built up to be a force to be reckoned with. They were a sellsword company - the best in the business, so they say - with 20,000 men, horses and elephants. Okay, so they failed to deliver on that last one (sorry, Cersei), but they were a large group of mercenaries who never broke a contract nor lost a battle. These guys were clearly a huge deal, right?
Wrong. The Golden Company were a complete joke. At least half were single-handedly destroyed by Daenerys upon her arrival in King’s Landing while the rest were slaughtered by the Dothraki and Unsullied.
Clearly, the showrunners just didn’t know what to do with the Golden Company, but their decimation wouldn’t have been too terrible if they weren’t built up as the best sellswords out there. There's disappointing, and then there's pathetic. These guys were just pathetic.
