Game Of Thrones Season 8: 15 Stupid Blunders That Completely Ruined It

11. Pointless Hook-Ups

Jaime And Brienne
HBO

Season 8 had not one, but TWO pointless hook-ups (well, three if you count Euron and Cersei, but let's focus on two for now)…and both were one-night stands, one of which had no impact on the story whatsoever, and the other greatly disserviced it.

First, there were Arya and Gendry. After reuniting in the season premiere, Arya sleeps with Gendry in the second episode, and it was not only uncomfortable but forced. There were hints of a romance to blossom, but it happens way too quick and wasn't earned in the slightest.

Then Gendry proposes to Arya two episodes later when he becomes Lord of Storm’s End only to be rejected. It was good thing for Arya’s character – because as she said, she’s not a lady and never has been – but it further illustrates how pointless their love scene was.

Even more insulting were Jaime and Brienne. They were a great pairing, but their hooking up not only ruined their relationship, but consequently both characters. Jaime goes back to Cersei after sleeping with Brienne for no reason and undoes eight years of character development in the process, and Brienne goes from a strong woman to a heartbroken, loveless mess. It’s completely insulting to her character, and even more so after Jaime had just knighted her before the battle with the dead.

Really, that knighting was the end of her arc, and she should have died heroically in the Battle of Winterfell; that would have been a far more respectful ending for her.
