Game Of Thrones Season 8: 8 Criticisms Which Are Fully Unjustified
1. David Benioff And D.B. Weiss Ruined Game Of Thrones
This one really makes no sense.
Benioff and Weiss have written the series since its Season 1 origins. Remember back then, when everybody loved Game of Thrones?
So what changed? The most popular accusation is that they proved an inherent ability to devise good ideas after the literature expired in season 5, and that this was somehow proof that Thrones was only good under their banner because they had the books to rely on.
This is not how making good television works, by any stretch. First point: It took exemplary skill to make the transition from novels to TV, and would have derailed from the word go in the hands of most other creators.
Second point: George R.R. Martin has divulged little info about The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. However, his interaction between the series and their creators both professional and emotional, has been nothing but positive, right up until his swansong blog following the Season 8 finale. Regarding the ending in the books, Martin hinted at this much:
"Book or show, which will be the “real” ending? It’s a silly question. How many children did Scarlett O’Hara have? How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet."
But let's keep the debate positive and fair guys. Benioff and Weiss didn't ruin Game of Thrones. They made Game of Thrones, and for that we should all grateful, even if some people no longer care to admit it.
