Game Of Thrones Season 8 Ending: 10 Last-Minute Predictions For The Finale

3. It's Not An Expected Ending

And for expected, it's probably best to think of the word "happy" too.

There's a traditional image of a heroic ending in fantasies like this that suggest that it will end with the hero sitting on the throne. There is absolutely no way Game Of Thrones ends that way. To quote the dear, depraved, departed Ramsay Bolton "if you think there's a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention."

If you've recently signed a petition and hope that you're going to get some sort of restorative ending to make you feel better, you best not watch it. Because it's not coming and the way the show ACTUALLY ends is probably going to kick up a hornet's nest again. It's always been that way and it was always going to be for the finale too.

Hell, at this stage, you wouldn't even rule out the possibility of a sequel tease that brings the Dead Army back. After all, Jon Snow and Beric Dondarian did have that conversation about how they were brought back from the dead "for a purpose" and they haven't really had one yet. Or Jon hasn't anyway. So what if they were doomed to do this forever? What if time is completely cyclical like Bran has been hinting for ages and any victory for the living was merely respite?

Maybe that's wide-eyed speculation too far, but there'll be a sting in the tail too that is considerably less fanciful than all of that, though. And also a happy ending for a couple of characters first...
