Game Of Thrones Season 8: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best
9. Jon Snow
This was a strange season for Jon Snow, who is the main hero of the show and the one who seemingly had the biggest part to play: he had to learn the truth of his parentage, he was the most invested in the fight against the Night King, and he was the rightful heir to the Iron Throne.
Ultimately, all of that does play out in some fashion, from the great scene where Jon is told who he really is, to the tragic one where he kills Dany. Along the way, Jon remains very much true to himself and his own sense of honour, but he also loses a bit of agency in the story: he doesn't get to fight the Night King, he's pushed into kill Dany by Tyrion, and even going back to the Wall is framed as Bran's decision, not his.
It works enough, because that's often the way of the main character, especially in fantasy stories: Luke's not the most interesting in the Original Trilogy, and nor is Harry Potter in his series, for example. Jon's good and noble, and there's enough in there to justify his actions, and his farewells to his family and final endpoint - including THAT reunion with Ghost - are just beautifully done.
