Game Of Thrones Season 8: Ranking Every Character Worst To Best

6. Jaime Lannister

Following on from the Season 7 finale, Jaime Lannister made good on his promise to fight for the living, arriving at Winterfell and immediately running into Bran Stark. From there, we got further development in one of Game of Thrones' greatest character arcs, as the man who pushed a little boy out of the window showed us all just how much he'd changed.

His relationship with Brienne was at the heart of this, from knighting her beside the fire to fighting by her side at Winterfell, and then sleeping with her an episode later. It all felt rather perfect. Too perfect, in fact, because it couldn't last.

Jaime's decision to leave Brienne and go back to Cersei is devastating, and ultimately costs him his life. But for all we were rooted in his redemption and believed in it, he just couldn't. She's the drug, and he is an addict. Him going back to her - by way of one last emotional farewell to Tyrion - and dying in the arms of the woman he loves isn't the end we wanted, but it is a suitable one for his character, and doesn't take away from his other incredible deeds this season either. Jaime's still redeemed in a lot of ways, but he's also a tragedy, and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau encapsulates all that brilliantly.
