2. The Night King

How He Died

After decimating Dany and Jon's forces, the Night King made it to the Godswood (via an airborne dragon battle with both of his chief enemies) and attempted to kill Bran.

But wouldn't you know it, Arya pulled off another of those last-gap saves, sneaking up on the head of the Dead and stabbing him with the Catspaw dagger given to her - ironically - by Bran. Cue the entire Dead Army falling (or shattering in the case of the White Walkers) and victory being sounded.

What It Means

Shockingly, that the Great War is over and done with well before anyone could have guessed it was going to be. Dany and Jon can now focus their energy on the South, where Cersei waits with her army for hire and we get more space in the final three episodes for more nuanced conflict alongside another huge battle.

The heroes won and man's memory will be preserved thanks to Bran/The Three-Eyed Raven enduring.
