Game Of Thrones Season 8 Trailer Review: 7 Ups And 5 Downs

3. It Shows A Little Too Much Of The Battles

Game Of Thrones Winterfell Fire
HBO

In the wake of the EW feature on Thrones that was used as a launch-point for the full-on advertising campaign kicked off with this trailer, we already knew that the battles in Season 8 were going to be a big deal. In fact, the biggest talking point out of that extended feature was the comparison of the Big Battle TM with Helms Deep in The Lord Of The Rings. Considering that was 40 minutes, we're effectively looking at an entire episode of fighting. Sign me up. Sign yourself up. Sign EVERYONE up.

But we arguably didn't need to see any of that. Obviously, the majority of the action in the trailer is focused on the Fall Of Winterfell, with only limited flashes of the war between the Battle For Westeros (let's just call it that from now on), but even then, we didn't need that much. We know that's coming, that's not as necessary as reminding us of the characters or pushing all of the action through the filter of their emotions.

The trailer is far more gripping in those reaction shots, to be honest, and seeing the action is a touch... vulgar?
