Game Of Thrones: The Best Episode From Every Season

7. Blackwater (S2E9)

Game Of Thrones Laws Of Gods And Men
HBO

Most episodes of Game of Thrones jumped around the entire landscape of Westeros and across the Narrow Sea. There were many, many different stories and subplots going on at any one time, and the series had to make sure all received the right amount of attention. Blackwater however, was different.

The entire episode took place in King’s Landing, and brought to life the battle that had been built up ever since season two began. Stannis’ forces met Joffrey’s in the fight for the Iron Throne. It was the series' first big battle, and was every bit as epic as anticipated.

Wildfire danced on the water, the Hound deserted Joffrey with what would become one of the show's more iconic lines, and Tyrion was betrayed by his sister in what was an incredibly packed and action-heavy episode.

For all the fighting and the action however, it was Cersei Lannister that stole the show as she revealed some uncomfortable truths to Sansa, and showed just how far she was willing to go to protect her family. She was one of the series’ greatest ever characters, and this episode proved it. She wasn't evil for the sake of it, she was just fiercely protective of her family which is something everyone can understand.
