Game Of Thrones: The Best Episode From Every Season

4. Hardhome (S5E9)

Game Of Thrones Laws Of Gods And Men
HBO

Everything, absolutely everything about this battle was just f*cking epic. Jon and Tormund's journey north of the Wall to bring the wildlings out of the Night King's reach was as explosive as you could possibly imagine.

Miguel Sapochnik, the episode's director showed a true mastery of suspense, from the mist descending and the mad scramble to get back through the gates, to the deafening silence before the chaos began. This was the kind of battle that gave you goosebumps, not to mention the now iconic image of the Night King adding to his army.

Throughout the run of Game of Thrones, Jon Snow was one of the greatest characters ever, and this episode proves exactly why. Leading the charge against the dead in spite of the odds, fighting for a union with the wildlings who could have murdered him at any second, NOT following Daenerys around like a lost puppy.

Hardhome was a game changer in the real war, at least that's how it seemed when this did appear to be the real war. Of course, it ultimately meant nothing as the White Walker story was brushed under the carpet in season eight, but even that doesn't rob this battle of its glory all these years later.
