Game Of Thrones: The Best Episode From Every Season

3. The Battle Of The Bastards (S6E9)

Just like with season four, you could make an argument that season six was the greatest entry in the Game of Thrones story of all. There is some stiff competition, but with the likes of 'The Door' and 'The Winds of Winter' who could disagree? Neither of these however, were the best the season had to offer.

That title goes to episode nine, 'The Battle of the Bastards'. There had been build up to epic battles in Game of Thrones before, but here the show got to pay off the huge fight between Jon Snow and Ramsay Bolton that ever George R. R. Martin hadn't yet got to. A lot can be said about the show overtaking the source material, but here it didn't miss a beat.

The battle itself was one of the bloodiest and most chaotic in Game of Thrones history, book-ended by a haunting build-up and the gory, wonderfully satisfying death of Ramsay Bolton.

Interspersed with scenes of Dany's war with the Masters of Meereen, Jon Snow shone yet again. Whenever Game of Thrones put on a Jon-centric battle it was an automatic win, but putting him opposite the detestable Ramsay Bolton made for one of the greatest battles ever.
