Game Of Thrones: The Last Watch Review - 8 Ups & 3 Downs

6. It's Almost Like A Comedy

Perhaps it's because we're all living in a post-The Office world, but there's something of a blackly comic mockumentary about the whole process. There's the same sort of sardonic, self-effacing humour as something like This Is Spinal Tap.

There's not exactly the same sort of silliness, but there's definitely a fascinating humour to everything that is helped marvellously by the awkward reality of some of the scenes. The shaggy, debraggled plastic direwolf is basically this documentary's version of Spinal Tap's stone henge, for instance and the tragedy of a show that requires so much snow being derailed so badly when it actually snows is awful and funny at the same time.

These productions are built on the back of people with great hearts and huge commitment and there's a very real sense throughout this documentary that humour is a coping mechanism as well as a fuel for the fire.
