Game Of Thrones: The Meaning Behind Every Episode Title (Season 1)

Episode 7 €“ You Win Or You Die

€œYou Win or You Die€ is another episode title taken from a quote within the episode itself, this time from Cersei Lannister while talking to Ned Stark. The entire quote by Cersei: €œWhen you play the game of thrones, you win or you die. There is no middle ground€ is meant as a warning to Ned to stay out of the fight for the Iron throne, at the cost of his own life. This quote is possibly the most famous piece of dialogue in the entire series to date and is used extensively in a number of different promotional materials for the show, probably due to how accurately it portrays the overall themes and plot of the series. When spoken as a warning to Ned Stark, the meaning of the statement is SPOILER proven to be true, as two episodes later Ned is beheaded, after seemingly €˜playing the game of thrones€™ and losing.
