Game Of Thrones: The Meaning Behind Every Episode Title (Season 2)
Episode 4 Garden Of Bones
The Garden of Bones, as explained to Dany by Ser Jorah Mormont, is the name given to the desert surrounding Qarth, a nearby city which has declared they will be welcoming to Dany and her people, on account of her being the mother of dragons. Jorah tells Dany that the reason it is called this is because if you are prohibited from entering Qarth, you are certain to die in the desert, as they do not reconsider, and the area surrounding the city is a barren desert with no chance of survival. This is a fate very narrowly avoided by Dany and her followers in the episode. The 'bones' of the title may also be alluding to the remains of Eddard Stark, whose bones were returned to Catelyn Stark as a show of good faith, on the order of Tyrion Lannister.
