Game Of Thrones Theory: 10 Hints Jon Snow Will Become King In The North
8. Stannis Vs Ramsay
So, if the Northern Lords knew of the plan to have Jon succeed Robb, why not write to the Wall and tell him or even Stannis? Well, because at this stage it wouldn't necessarily do them any favours. Stannis Baratheon wants to defeat the Boltons and take Winterfell, so why not let him? If he succeeds, then the Boltons are out of the way, and the Northmen can claim they never swore any true allegiance to Stannis, sweep aside his weakened forces, and install Jon Snow - or rather, Jon Stark - as King in the North. If Stannis loses, then it's much the same. They no longer have to swear any false fealty to him, and the Bolton forces will be depleted, making it easier to make their move. Of course, Season 5 went some way towards letting us know how this goes, with the Bolton army defeating Stannis'. There's a chance the book will play out differently, but that would be a pretty major deviation at this stage. That's set it up for the Northmen - and Jon - to take back Winterfell.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
