Game Of Thrones Theory: Bran Wargs Into Night King's Dragon In Season 8

5. Can You Even Warg Into A Dragon?

While it's fun to discuss the idea of Bran warging into Viserion, there is a question of whether or not a skinchanger can take control of a dragon. While they do possess the ability to take control of other animals, dragons aren't quite the same as, say, ravens: they're inherently magical creatures, and extremely intelligent to boot. There's reason to believe that warging into a dragon could actually be even harder than warging into Hodor, since they are "fire made flesh". They won't let just anyone mount them, instead bonding with riders, which could well apply to warging as well.

Something that might support the idea is a quote from Tyrion in A Dance With Dragons, where he says: "The Freehold’s grasp had reached as far as Dragonstone, but never to the mainland of Westeros itself. Odd, that. Dragonstone is no more than a rock. The wealth was farther west, but they had dragons. Surely they knew that it was there." That could refer to their fear of skinchangers, although it could be, well, just about anything else, although it is true Aegon the Conqueror never looked to take the lands beyond the Wall.

Another important quote from the books comes from Varamyr Sixskins, who has three wolves, a shadowcat, an eagle, and a snow bear that he controls and is able to skinchange into. He says: "Once a beast’s been joined to a man, any skinchanger can slip inside and ride him." If Viserion has been joined to the Night King, then that'd perhaps make it easier for Bran to take control.

There's such little evidence either way that it's difficult to know, really, but one thing that does work in Bran's favour is that Viserion is (or was) dead. It's still unclear if that means he's a wight or a White Walker. The script for The Dragon and the Wolf notes that the Night King has "done the same thing to Viserion that he did to Craster's sons." That would indicate he's a White Walker, but the fact Viserion was dead, and also looking worse for wear in the finale, is more fitting with a wight reanimation than being turned into a White Walker.

If he's a White Walker, that complicates matters (but might not be impossible, since the Night King ostensibly has control over them), but if he's a wight, then he's a relatively brainless creature rather than a highly intelligent dragon, and would surely be far easier to control, whether that's by the Night King or Bran.
