Game Of Thrones: 10 Book Characters Who Are Far Better On-Screen
6. Jorah Mormont
Here we have a case of an actor completely owning the role to the point where it becomes hard to separate the two. Iain Glen plays Jorah Mormont, loyal servant of Daenerys Targaryen. In the books, he is very much a Mormont, meaning he is a rugged bear of a man; hairy and broad shouldered. Daenerys doesn't consider him particularly attractive, making the return of his affection all the more difficult for her. Contrast this to the show, where Iain Glen makes the character more suave, wise, and traditionally handsome. It certainly helps that Iain has a voice as smooth as butter, making everything that comes out of his mouth a pleasure to listen to. It' also helpful that he is also less aggressive in his romantic pursuit of Dany. Whereas book Jorah did not restrain himself from making physical contact with her, show Jorah appears to have too much respect for her, admiring and pining for her from afar. This makes him a bit more likable and sympathetic compared to his book counterpart. It's not that book Jorah isn't a sympathetic character; he definitely is, especially considering the direction his story goes. But Iain Glen makes the role iconic. Once you watch the show it's difficult going back and reading the books without Iain voicing the character in your head. Everyone loves Jorah in the show, and this is because he is played by a great actor. It is really as simple as that.
