Game Of Thrones: 10 Book Characters Who Are Far Better On-Screen

5. Bronn

Bronn is a great character in the books. A sellsword hired by Tyrion to serve and protect him, he has no stakes in the goings on within King's Landing, and thus gets to sit back and observe the absurd power struggles from afar. Of course, he does so with his own brand of charm and charisma that has led to him becoming a fan favourite. It helps that he is quite handy with a sword. With this in mind. it's testament to the show that it managed to enhance the likability of this character and make him into an even greater crowd-pleaser, and this is thanks to the spot-on casting of Jerome Flynn. From the moment he appears for the first time in season one, his nonchalant attitude towards violence and depravity draws you in. This is only enhanced by the blossoming relationship between him and Tyrion, which, despite being business, comes off as a genuine friendship. Some of the best interactions of the series are between Bronn and Tyrion, and this is because the chemistry between Jerome Flynn and Peter Dinklage is electric and so entertaining to watch. It is no surprise that he was given more to do in the show than the books; taking the place of various other characters such as Jacelyn Bywater. Some of his better material was invented for the show, with his enhanced presence in the Battle of the Blackwater being a prime example. Best of all, despite his cut-throat nature, Bronn is given humanity and warmth not apparent in the books. All the added material combined with Jerome's performance make for a more defined and well-rounded character than he is in the books. When you go back and read them, it will be a hard time imagining him as anyone else.
