Game Of Thrones: 10 Book Characters Who Are Far Better On-Screen
3. Khal Drogo
Khal Drogo should not be likable. He is the leader of a brutal tribe of Dothraki nomadic warriors. He supports slavery and lives his life with the "right by conquest" attitude. He is a Dothraki warrior, getting by on strength alone. To the surprise of every reader, Dany actually falls in love with this monster, and he her. It is through this inexplicable love that we see a softer side of Drogo, and he becomes a bit more endearing to the reader. Still, before the show, it is doubtful you'd find Khal Drogo on very many readers' list of favourite characters. This changed with the release of Game of Thrones and Jason Momoa's insanely intense portrayal of the mighty Khal. Of course it helps that Momoa already has a pretty intense look to him, which fits the character perfectly. One glance and you want to stay as far away from him as possible. The scene where he rips Mago's tongue out is a ballet of death; it is glorious. Yet, while it is certainly important to capture the fear and power that emanates from the character, what makes the show version so much better than the book is the level of humanity he bestows upon him. Despite the horrific origins, the relationship between Dany and Drogo still remains one of the sweetest of the series to date, and half of that is because of Jason Momoa. There is real chemistry going on there; not surprising given their friendship in real life. In fact, Jason's Khal Drogo is such a fan favourite that he was brought back for a brief cameo in season two. To this day, fans of the show continue to lament his all-too-early death. Suddenly Khal Drogo became an immensely popular character, and that is all on Jason Momoa.
