2. The Tower Of Joy

The flashback scene in the books that sparked all the rumours about Jon Snow€™s parents, was the Tower of Joy. As already mentioned Rhaegar reportedly abducted Lyanna Stark and he locked her away in a remote tower. That of course all led to the rebellion led by Robert, which we€™ve already gone over. However, during most of that war Rhaegar had remained notably absent until the battle of the Trident. While the Targaryen prince went off to lead his father€™s army, he left Lyanna Stark in the tower under the protection of the Kingsguard, which was a very suspicious move and probably led to his death at the hands of Robert Baratheon. Why would Rhaegar leave the Kingsguard with Lyanna? Considering that Ned finds her in a €œbed of blood€ and was reportedly asked to protect her infant by claiming it as its own, there€™s every possibility there could be a Targaryen offspring out there. This is the flashback that literally started the Jon Snow rumours, and given that it happens after a legendary fight between Ned, his men and three renowned members of the Kingsguard, it seems a perfect proposition for a flashback scene.
