Game Of Thrones: 10 Spoilers Learnt By The Released Episode Titles

9. We Will Find Out That Joffrey Sent The Assassin To Kill Bran In Season One

Cast your memory back far into the past, to Season One of Game of Thrones. Bran is in a coma after being unceremoniously thrown out of a Winterfell window by Jaime Lannister, and Catelyn watches over him day and night, refusing to leave his side. One night, a fire breaks out in Winterfell, and a man breaks in with the sole intention of assassinating Bran. Catelyn catches him and tries to stop him, cutting her hands on his blade, before Bran's direwolf Summer rips the man's throat out. Catelyn is surprised to learn that the assassin's blade is made of the rare Valyrian steel with a dragonbone hilt and would not be something that a "common catspaw" would own; she believes that he was paid to do it, and that Bran must have been pushed from the window. She decides to head South in secret to tell Ned, and learns from Littlefinger that the knife is his and that he lost it to Tyrion Lannister in a wager. Catelyn now believes that Tyrion is responsible for plotting to murder Bran, and though he denies involvement she has him arrested for it and brought to the Eyrie for a trial, which he wins. We never find out anything more after that... Until Two Swords. When Tywin gives Joffrey Widow's Wail, Joffrey lets slip that he is no stranger to Valyrian steel, which catches Tyrion's attention. Tyrion jests that maybe he should give Joffrey a knife to match his sword, and describes the blade meant for Bran Stark. Joffrey is wary of his uncle, but Tyrion ends the conversation, though he goes over the whole affair in his head and comes to the realisation that Joffrey must have sent the assassin.
