While Bran and the others were dealing with Locke, Jon was fighting with his men against the mutineers. He eventually finds his way into the Keep and witnesses Karl killing one of his men. Karl welcomes him and points out that the mutineers had a good thing going, and that Jon will never know what its truly like to be free. Swinging his knives around, he attacks Jon, and the fight begins! Though Jon is a skilled swordsman, Karl fights dirty, and he eventually knocks his adversary to the ground. Before he can kill him, one of Crasters wives stabs him in the back. Distracted, Karl turns his back to Jon to deal with the woman, and this gives Jon the opportunity to deliver the final blow...straight through Karls mouth. Seriously, it was disgusting. Leading the woman outside, Jon meets up with his men and we learn five Nights Watch men were lost, including Locke. Ten mutineers were also found dead, which means one is missing. We next see Rast hightailing it (hes good at that) away from the Keep, until he is jumped by Ghost and becomes his late dinner. Ghost then finds his way back to Jon, a reunion that many have been waiting for. One of the men asks what they should do with Crasters wives, and Jon offers to take them to Castle Black to keep the safe from Mance Rayder and other dangers. The self-appointed leader of the women says that they were abused by Craster and the mutineers, so theyll find their own way. Jon questions whether theyll stay at the Keep, but the woman simply states, Burn it to the ground, and all the dead with it. Jon follows her wishes, and the house and bodies are lit ablaze. Its safe to say no one will miss Crasters Keep. With all the horrors that took place there, burning it was the best solution. Now no one else will ever be mistreated there. As for Karl and the mutineers, they may have been off on their own, but they still presented a danger to the Wall. Eliminating Karl and the others was a wise move by Jon. Theyre still outnumbered, but at least Mance Rayder wont learn that Jon exaggerated the amount of men stationed at Castle Back. Score one for keeping tactical secrets safe.
