Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "Mockingbird"
2. Oberyn WIll Be Tyrions Champion
Tyrions at his lowest right now. Hes been framed for murder, locked up in prison and now doesnt have anyone to fight on his behalf...until now. Oberyn visits Tyrion in his cell to let him know that Cersei approached him the other day, although her attempts to sway Oberyns vote were not very subtle. Oberyn is well aware of Cerseis decades-long desire to see Tyrion dead, and reminisces on when he visited Casterly Rock shortly after Tyrion was born. Cersei and Jaime took Oberyn and his sister Elia to see baby Tyrion. Oberyn, who had heard that the baby was a monster, was surprised to see he didnt look that unusual. Cersei, on the other hand, saw Tyrion as a monster because their mother died while giving birth to him, and she hopes to one day see him dead. Tyrion says how Cersei always gets what she wants, but Oberyn is only concerned about what he wants: justice for Elia and her children. Tyrion says that Kings Landing is the wrong place to look for justice, but Oberyn disagrees, saying that everyone whos wronged him are in one spot. As he leaves, he informs Tyrion that he will be his champion, meaning that he will fight Ser Gregor Clegane. If youve been paying attention this season, this was to be expected. We know how Oberyn has sought vengeance against The Mountain for killing his sisters children and then raping and murdering her as well. With Tyrions trial by combat, this gives him the perfect opportunity to have his revenge. However, just because the timing is right doesnt mean hell win. Although Oberyn is a proven warrior, The Mountain is a monstrous knight whos murdered countless men. Oberyn may be talented, but this is going to be the hardest fight of his life.
