Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From “Two Swords”
3. The Wildlings Have Formed A New Alliance
While Jon is dealing with accusations from The Watch, Ygritte and Tormund Giantsbane await orders from Mance Rayder. Tormund, who knows Ygritte is skilled with a bow, accuses her of deliberately letting Jon go rather than killing him. Before she can answer, they are signaled about approaching travelers. These travelers turn out to be a horde of Thenns led by Styr. Chastising Tormund for losing their warg and Jon, Styr states that the meat down south tastes better than it does on their side of The Wall. Styr reminds Tormund that the men of the Nights Watch are getting fat at Castle Black and suggests he should try eating crow sometime. The camera pulls back to reveal a human arm several of Styrs men set over a fire. Because Jon spent so much time with Ygritte and the Free Folk last season, the viewers were able to know them more intimately. Yes, theyre enemies to The Watch, but at least we understood their motivations and why they hate the Seven Kingdoms. However, its not going to be nearly as easy empathizing with a group of cannibals. Even Tormund hates the Thenns (Im paraphrasing what he actually said). The danger to The Wall was already bad enough, but adding Thenns to the mix has made things a lot worse.
