Gendry goes on an interesting journey in Season 3. Originally traveling with Arya after their escape from Harrenhal in Season 2, Gendry is sold by the Brotherhood Without Banners to the priestess Melisandre, who informs him that he is actually one of Robert Baratheon's bastards. She brings him back to Stannis at Dragonstone and sees that he is provided with every luxury that he'd been denied in the slums of King's Landing. Wow, Stannis sure is a great uncle! Or maybe not so much. Stannis has been told by his priestess that a king's blood is required for a sacrifice of paramount importance. So, as the totally natural and not at all bizarre next move, Melisandre strips and seduces the clearly inexperienced Gendry, tying him very securely to the bed. Just as he is...reaching his potential, Melisandre moves away from him. Before he has the time to wonder what he's done wrong, however, she reappears...with three leeches, each of which she pitilessly places on a rather delicate region of Gendry's body. Gendry--who is pretty sure that this isn't the way it's supposed to work--screams and struggles against the bonds. That's one way to get somebody's blood.
