12. A Crown Fit For A King
The Moment: As Season 1 developed it was becoming increasingly apparent Viserys Targaryen wouldn't make it to Westeros, let alone get a chance to take the Iron Throne. In one of the few predictable elements of the series hes offed in an incredibly creative fashion. After pushing around his fiancé and attempting to control his tribe, Khal Drogo decides to cut things short and give him the golden crown hes always harping on about. Melting some of his medallions, he crowns Viserys with molten metal. Ouch.
Why It's So Sickening: This was the first moment when watching Thrones where the full brutality of the world (and in particular the Dothraki) became apparent. Viserys' death itself is like a horrible Would You Rather question, with Harry Lloyd's screams adding as much as the gruesome special effects. What really gets me about this moment is that Daenerys, thus far alternating from compassionate to distant, actually of approves this. Even though hes the biggest tool since dragons went extinct you cant help but feel the horror as Viserys' world (and liquid gold) comes falling down around him.
