7. Ser Rodriks Beheading
The Moment: Being both quick and humiliating, its not surprising beheadings are common in the high echelons of Westeros. But while Ser Gregor can easily take down a horse this way, others really struggle. After taking Winterfell for the Greyjoys, Theon captures the returning Master of Arms and, after Ser Rodrik spits in his face, is forced to execute him. Which he does. Terribly.
Why It's So Sickening: You could almost read this moment as darkly comic Theon attempts to act tough, but repeatedly stumbles with the rules although to do that requires massive oversight of the horrific execution. All the previous beheadings in the show had been quick, clean cuts, and while Neds was certainly mortifying from an emotional perspective, this one is more outright shocking simply because its so difficult to watch. We hardly know Rodrik, but that doesnt matter; his slow, painful death (it takes four blows to kill him) is quintessentially awful, humiliating only Theon and spelling pain for the victim. And thats not even mentioning Brans desperate pleas.
