Game Of Thrones: 15 Upcoming Problems That Could Potentially Derail It

1. The Final Two Books Aren't Written Yet!

Though George R R Martin has given Benioff and Weiss a failsafe ending there's little doubt that everyone who has read up to the end of A Dance With Dragons would prefer to read the final two novels before the show catches up. Now that's not to say that George RR Martin should be forcibly locked in a room until he finishes his story; he'll get there when he gets there, but it is a problem for the show. If we're all lucky The Winds Of Winter might come out at about the time the show comes to the end of adapting A Dance With Dragons. But A Dream Of Spring? Given the pace it is currently taking to produce these books, it is very unlikely. The simple truth is the writers can do one of two things. Flesh out the next two books with some creative, dramatic and satisfying embellishments. Or solve a lot of the problems I have discussed by cutting the books down. I think it goes without saying that A Feast For Crows And A Dance With Dragons need to be merged; otherwise audiences will lose Dany, Jon and Tyrion for a year and that really wouldn't work on the show. If they do make some creative cuts, then we could be watching the battle of Slavers Bay by the end of season five and then the show really would be going off on its own. Would that be a good or bad thing? I'm undecided. The TV show has demonstrated that it can flesh out background characters, making them the stars of the show. But as a book reader, part of the fun is seeing how our favourite stories are adapted for the screen. What do you think? While we ponder that, we can look forward to what might be the best season yet next month. Are we excited? Giddily so!
