8.New Characters And Politics That Move Away From Our Favourite Characters

With A Feast For Crows serving as a quasi-reboot, new story lines come into effect. In doing so, that brings us a whole host of new characters, many of whom have stories that are still building by the end of A Dance With Dragons. The most interesting set of characters are those that Tyrion encounters on his exile; Jon Connington, and Aegon Targaryen. The latter of course is Daenerys' uncle, thought dead but miraculously returned to retake the Iron Throne. It certainly dilutes the assumption that Daenerys will eventually rule Westeros if there is another Targaryen in play, but it does make you ask the question; is this an exciting element to the political mix or a random new character coming rather too late in the game? Taking are far greater amounts of time are Theon's uncles, religious zealot Aeron Damphair, the dangerous, long lost Euron Greyjoy and loyal Victarion; it's a lot of vying for power that serves as a distraction to what is going on elsewhere, particularly as the previous three books have just dealt with kings vying for power. Though Victarion's role is the most interesting, in that he looks close to come into Daenerys' radar, perhaps as the saviour of her kingdom in the battle of Mereen to come? Finally we have Doran Martell and the sand snakes in sunny Dorne, in a plot that takes up large chunks of the latter two books but doesn't seem to have neared any kind of resolution yet. As with anything in this article, our perspective might change once we read the next book in the series but to date, the show is about to introduce new characters that don't seem to get very far...
