Game Of Thrones: 7 Minor Changes That Irritated Book Readers
5. Daenerys Is Willing To Sell A Dragon
A minor change in the long run, but a frustrating one nonetheless. When Daenerys arrives in Astapor, looking to buy an army, she finds a slave owner named Kraznys who has eight thousand Unsullied (the Game Of Thrones equivalent of robots) who only know how to obey orders and kill people. But they come at a heavy price. In the books Dany offers everything she has. Dothraki, weapons, money, jewels, ships, pretty much everything. But Kraznys only wants one thing: a dragon. This puts our young Khaleesi in a very serious dilemma. She needs the army of Unsullied. But she needs her dragons, which are more like children to her than pets. She can't possibly accept this deal. As the chapter ends, book readers wonder how she will possibly come to a decision. The power is in the enemy's hands. In the series Daenerys doesn't bother haggling with prices. She goes right to the top shelf. "I will give you a dragon!" she says, with sickening smugness. No hesitation. No bargaining. Jorah Mormont immediately voices his shock and disapproval, but is told to shut up as Daenerys continues to smile confidently and make the deal official. It is the smug smile that alerts viewers that Dany has a trick up her sleeve. Of course we know how it gets resolved. She hands over the dragon and then says the code word "Dracarys!" which basically means "breathe fire until all the bad guys are dead!" That moment is one of the highlights of the entire series, both books, and show, but the show loses points because it was Daenerys who brought the dragon into the conversation. In the show, she was the one holding the power and Kraznys is agreeing to her terms. That makes it harder to believe there is any real threat.
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
