Game Of Thrones: 8 Things We Learned From "The Watchers On The Wall"
7. Gilly Returns To Castle Black
Leaving the library, Sam hears Pyp arguing with someone outside the gate. Recognising Gillys voice, he tells Pyp to open the gate to let her in. Pyp says hes under orders not to open it, but Sam curses and repeats the order. Relenting, Pyp opens it up and Gilly rushes towards Sam. He apologises for leaving her in Moles Town, and she begs not to be thrown out again. Sam assures her that anyone who wants to throw her out will have words with him, and that wherever she goes, hell go. Suddenly, the warning horn blows twice, meaning the wildlings are coming. Sam takes Gilly into the castle and puts her in one of the storage rooms. He tells her hell check on her as soon as he can, but she protests, saying that he promised hed stay with her. Sam explains that he has to fight alongside his brothers, but Gilly says hell just be killed out there. He explains that he made a promise to defend the Wall as a man of the Nights Watch, and he has to keep that promise. He then kisses her and promises he wont die out there. Good for Sam. After much inner turmoil, he finally revealed his true feelings to Gilly. Sure, it will be tough to balance them with the vows he made to the Nights Watch, but at least hes not keeping them bottled up any longer. Hes promised her that hell go with her wherever she is, and while he doesnt mean that quite as literally as she interpreted it, you can be sure that hell do whatever it takes to protect her.
