Game Of Thrones Season 4: 10 Things Fans Who Haven't Read The Books Want To See

2. Joffrey Dies

Since his first appearance, Joffrey has been an absolutely horror €“ a violent psychopath and petulant child simultaneously, one who treats people as playthings and frequently tires of his playthings. When his father dies, the worst happens to Westeros €“ Joffrey becomes king. He executes Ned Stark for treason and holds his daughter Sansa (betrothed to Joffrey) as a suffering hostage, delighting in her pain. Even after agreeing to marry Margaery Tyrell (who overlooks Joffrey's evil proclivities because she wants to be queen) instead, he still keeps Sansa an unwilling guest in King's Landing. Credit has to be given where it's due, of course €“ George R. R. Martin, D.B. Weiss, and David Benioff have created one of the most loathsome villains in the history of television. Jack Gleeson, who portrays Joffrey, is also brilliant €“ he's evil, maniacal, and whiny all at once, with a good dose of Edmund Blackadder-esque body language and facial expression thrown in for over-the-top villainy. None of that changes the fact that Joffrey needs to die. Ever since he ordered the death of Ned Stark, I (and millions of others) have waited for the time when he would suffer the same fate, possibly at the hand of Arya Stark (or even more satisfyingly, Sansa). Of course, I'm not expecting it to happen in season four €“ he's the big bad of the show, odds are his death will be part of the ultimate climax. Still, we can keep our fingers crossed, right?
