5. Jamie And Brienne Hook Up
It's a testament to the characterization in Game of Thrones that Jamie Lannister, revealed in the series premiere to be an attempted child murder who fathered his sister's children, has actually become likeable in the third season. After being captured by the Starks in season one and held hostage, Lannister is released in secret by Catelyn Stark, who hopes to use Jamie to negotiate the return of her daughters from the rest of Lannisters in King's Landing. She entrusts Jamie into the care of Brienne of Tarth, her most loyal (and skilled) guard. Though Jamie initially ridicules Brienne's appearance and lack of humor, they begin to bond after being captured by Stark loyalists House Bolton. Jamie manages to talk the men from Bolton out of raping Brienne, but their leader, Locke, cuts off Jamie's hand. Subsequently despondent, Jamie is given motivation to live and get revenge from Brienne. They continue to bond, sexual tension growing. The two even bathe together, with Jamie explaining his version of the events that led to him earning the pejorative sobriquet "Kingslayer." Finally, after Jamie saves Brienne from execution via bear, the two make it to King's Landing together. It's been an interesting, humanizing time for Jamie Lannister, previously one of the most unrepentantly evil characters on the show. Now that he's reunited with his sister, Cersei, though, what path will he take? Hopefully, Brienne's impact on him has made a lasting change in his life and maybe the next step in that change is a relationship nobody would have expected.
