Game Of Thrones Season 4: 10 Things Fans Who Haven't Read The Books Want To See

4. Tyrion Stands Up To Tywin

Tyrion Lannister is a fan-favorite character for obvious reasons €“ he's got a good heart, a quick wit, and a bawdy disposition. He outsmarts his enemies and speaks truth to power €“ except when it comes to his father, Tywin. Tywin Lannister is the richest, most powerful man in Westeros, and he has hated Tyrion, whom he considers a freak of nature, since his birth, during which Tyrion's mother died. Fair's fair, though €“ Tywin Lannister seems to hate pretty much everybody. Tyrion becomes Hand to the King after Joffrey assumes the throne, trying to mitigate the awful effects his sociopathic nephew has on Westeros. However, when Tywin receives credit for helping the Lannisters' forces defeat Stannis Baratheon's men, he is named the Hand of the King. Tyrion is soon on the outs as Tywin manipulates royal goings-on to his own benefit and Joffrey's sadism is allowed to continue unchecked, so long as it doesn't impact Tywin. Despite his secret love for the prostitute Shae, Tyrion is forced by Tywin to marry Sansa Stark out of spite. Tyrion has shown himself to be cunning, brave, and most importantly, honorable. He has stood up to Joffrey, the prisons of the Eyrie, and the soldiers of Stannis Baratheon €“ still, he is seemingly paralyzed by fear of his father, all of the old abuses and desires for approval repeating themselves in his brain. In season four, we have to see Tyrion stand up to his greatest foe of all. He must embrace his love for Shae, take arms against the rest of the Lannisters, and tell his father to stick it once and for all.
