Episode: Dark Wings, Dark Words One of the most popular character relationships both on the screen and on the page is between Brienne of Tarth and Jamie Lannister, and it is easy to see why - their banter is sharp, contrasting their completely different backgrounds, and early on they are often at each other's throats (both verbally and physically). The mutual respect that forms between the two of them doesn't really start until they cross swords in the second episode of season three. Up until this point, Jamie Lannister has been described the most skilled swordsman in Westeros, and his cocky behaviour matched that theory quite well throughout the first two seasons. His arrogance shows through early in this fight, then gives way to desperation as he slowly realises that he may well be outmatched - by a woman, no less. In this fight scene, the Game of Thrones choreographers are once again allowed to spice up the rather simple setup by restraining both of the combatants. Jamie is still cuffed at the wrists, limiting his range of attacks, while Brienne is wearing plate armor. We're lucky both of them survived this fight, for its aftermath lead to some of the best interpersonal scenes in the series.
