Games Of Thrones Season 7 Finale: What 'The Dragon And The Wolf' Really Means

12. Jaime And Brienne's Friction

Jaime Brienne Game Of Thrones
HBO

Thanks to her need to stay in Winterfell, Sansa sent Brienne of Tarth down to King's Landing, where we knew she'd meet Jaime Lannister. Cue everyone who doesn't appreciate Tormund as they should assuming that we'd see their old romance rekindled, but it didn't quite go that way.

Instead, Jaime met Brienne with something approaching bitter resentment (probably masking his true feelings), spitting venom at her as if he didn't already know she was allied to his enemies. It was like he was lashing out, and crucially, Cersei definitely picked up on their personal tension, which you could be forgiven for thinking might have spelled disaster for Brienne.

Despite the friction, hopefully we'll actually get to see them swinging swords together next season. It would still be better for her to fall for Tormund, but having her and Jaime legitimise their relationship (considering it's the archetypal She's All That sort of dynamic) would be quite something too.
