Genius Superhero Cartoons REPLACED By Worse Versions
5. The Spectacular Spider-Man Replaced By Ultimate Spider-Man
That's right, the Wall Crawler makes two appearances on this list. Despite being short lived, The Spectacular Spider-Man was arguably the most comic accurate portrayal of Spider-Man in animated media, along with the previous entry in this article. Spectacular Spider-Man focused on Peter struggling to balance his daily life as Peter Parker as a high school student along with his heroics as Spider-Man.
The series has everything a Spider-Man fan could wish for, focusing on the coming of age story for the hero, who deals with life as a high school student, a dangerous cast of villains, and an overarching plot tying everything together. The cast is phenomenal, the writing is spectacular (pun intended) and it is what every Spider-Man fan should dream for when watching an adaptation of the Wall Crawler.
Despite producer Greg Weisman hoping to reach 65 episodes, the series ended with just a 26 episode run after Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment. Shortly after, Marvel announced Ultimate Spider-Man to the disappointment of fans who held out hope that this adaptation of the Web Slinger would return.
Ultimate Spider-Man focused on Peter Parker being recruited by Nick Fury to join S.H.I.E.L.D. and train to become the "Ultimate Spider-Man," working alongside heroes such as Luke Cage, White Tiger, Iron Fist and Nova. The show had its moments, however the style of humour felt more like a toned down version of Deadpool. The end result was that Ultimate Spider-Man never reached the quality of its predecessor.
