Genius Superhero Cartoons REPLACED By Worse Versions
4. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) Replaced By Rise Of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The 2012 TMNT series attempted to reintroduce the Ninja Turtles to young viewers. Initially, the show was judged for its use of computer generated animation, with many fans accustomed to seeing the Turtles in a 2D animation style. The show also had the tough task of following the much adored 2003 TMNT series.
However, Nickelodeon's first take on the Turtles exceeded expectations, becoming arguably the best adaptation of the Heroes in a Half Shell yet.
Fans of the franchise were treated to an adaptation that was unafraid to pull from all aspects of TMNT lore. From the eighties series, to the serious tone displayed in the 2003 series and the comics, there was something featured for fans of every iteration to enjoy. While having goofy episodes and moments, Nickelodeon were also unafraid to take the Turtles into dark territories, killing off key characters and pushing the Turtles and allies to their absolute limits.
The quality and love put into this series by everyone involved left fans sour when the show was eventually cancelled and replaced with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Rise of the TMNT was criticised for changing many major elements of the mythos, including making Raphael the leader and making Leonardo's personality a lot like Mikey's. These changes, along with the series being more childish in comparison to its predecessor, made fans yearn for a 2012 series revival.
